    Beatrice Eleanor Stuempfig, 101, Green Bay, died Saturday, June 3, 2006. She was born Aug. 12, 1904, in Sagola, Mich., to the late Thomas L. and Harrietta (Plankey) Carey. She grew up on the Carey's Sagola Hill Farm, in a logging company family. She was one of 18 children ? 12 reaching adulthood. Bea, in her senior year in high school, taught grade school at the logging camp when they were short a teacher. She met her future husband, George R. Stuempfig, at the Channing, Mich., High School, where he began his first high school teaching job. They were married in 1927.


    They and relatives started a manufacturing business in Chicago. After 10 years, the business was moved to Racine. Bea then did work as a telephone operator and as a store clerk. Eventually, she and George opened their own grocery store. After years of retirement, they moved to Green Bay. Bea lived to match her husband's longevity at 101 years.


    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Evelyn Stuempfig; a grandson and his wife, George M. and Kristine Stuempfig; and granddaughter and her husband, Julie and Kevin Ulrich; two great-grandsons, Evan and Andrew Stuempfig; three great-granddaughters, Jennifer Stuempfig, Madison and Caley Ulrich; a sister, Lucille Daniels; other relatives and friends.


    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers and sisters.


    A memorial service will be held at a later date. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
